Race
Al Udeid Desert Challenge is the most prominent and challenging off-road racing event in Qatar. The race will be - for the first time in Qatar - part of the UCI's calendar. Classified as a third-class point-to-point cross-country race, the race covers 40 kilometers of enchanting desert roads, starting from the Sealine area, all the way to one of the amazing natural wonders, the “Inland Sea” or the Khor Al Udayd area.
As a UNESCO-recognised nature reserve with a special ecosystem, it is one of the few places in the world where the sea cuts into the heart of the desert. Since it is not accessible by land, this calm stretch of water is only accessible by traversing rolling dunes. The contestants will have to cross more than six of them to reach the finish line. Besides the uphill sand dunes, there are many sandy areas on the flat sections which makes the race more challenging and exciting. Don't let the race distance fool you, every dune and every patch of sand takes a bit of effort out of you. And to be able to compete, you have to be very fit, with a good bike and excellent equipment, choose the best track and luck can be on your side.
